Our History
More than 27 years of precision manufacturing, clinical innovation, and a singular mission: helping prevent diabetic amputations, one monofilament at a time.
A problem worth solving
In 1999, a clinician frustrated by inconsistent, poorly manufactured monofilaments decided there had to be a better way. The standard tools available to detect diabetic peripheral neuropathy were unreliable, variable in force, inconsistent in manufacturing, and expensive to source reliably.
Medical Monofilament was founded in Plymouth, Massachusetts with a single goal: engineer a monofilament that clinicians could trust completely. Every unit, every time, a 10 gram force range, ±1.5 g.
That founding obsession with precision has never changed.
27+ years of progress
Founded in Plymouth, MA
Medical Monofilament Manufacturing is established with a mission to produce the most consistent, clinically reliable monofilament available. Production begins out of a small facility on Camelot Drive, women-owned, independently operated, and built on an obsession with precision.
Patented automated manufacturing
We developed and patented a proprietary automated manufacturing process that eliminated human variability in production. Precision inline sensors and visual inspection systems were integrated into every production run.
FDA 510(k) Clearance
Medical Monofilament became the only monofilament manufacturer in the United States to receive FDA 510(k) clearance, validating our manufacturing process and giving clinicians the regulatory assurance they needed.
National distribution growth
Partnerships with national distributors brought the 5.07 monofilament into podiatry offices, wound care centers, and diabetes clinics across North America. Clinical adoption grew steadily as word spread about our consistency and reliability.
Direct-to-practice and expanded access
We launched direct ordering for practices of all sizes, introduced bulk and Open PO programs for hospital systems, and expanded international availability to bring the gold standard monofilament to clinicians worldwide.
Still independent. Still in Plymouth.
Same address. Same mission. Every monofilament still overseen at 121 Camelot Drive. Women-owned, FDA cleared, and committed to the 10 gram force range, ±1.5 g, that has protected patients for more than 27 years.
